Fall 2019 Summary of Accomplishments and Next Steps

Recruitment

  1. Expanded recruitment efforts to include earlier cultivation of high school students beginning with 9 th graders.
  2. Launched SLATE to support recruitment efforts for the System at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  3. Merged International Student Support Services (ISSS) with Admissions and creating a recruitment plan for expanding efforts in Mexico.

Retention

  1. Currently building out Navigate (Student Success Management Technology) with the goal of a soft launch in Spring 2020; full launch Fall 2020. This is a System-wide initiative that includes all of the community colleges.
  2. Reviewing first year experience course offerings and developing a first year experience for academic programming.
  3. Piloted a summer “Jump Start” program to support students who tested into developmental education courses.  Planning is underway to expand the summer “Jump Start” program to more students with the goal of helping students begin in college courses for mathematics and English in the fall semester to support “on-time” completion.
  4. Formed a student mental health taskforce to review current mental health programming on-campus and provide recommendations to expand support for students.

Aggie Life

  1. Launched the Aggie Stampede, a main campus student group based on “connecting”, “engaging” and “leading”.  Goal is to evolve the group to create student leaders who can mentor underclassman and expand student participation in events on campus.
  2. Merged career advising with the Center for Advising and Student Support with the goal of helping students develop a career plan along with an academic plan.  Future planning includes the training of advisers in financial planning so they can help students develop a financial plan.
  3. Merged Office of Study Abroad with Student Engagement. Currently in the process of creating a plan and vision for an Office of Experiential Learning – a one stop location for students seeking student employment, internships, co-ops, service learning, and research opportunities.

Degree attainment

  1. Completed degree roadmaps for each degree program offered at main campus with the goal of publishing them in 2020-2021 academic catalog in support of Navigate academic planning initiative.
  2. Implementing a schedule building software (Course Leaf) to assist department heads in build a schedule that reduces barriers for students. Software should be available for Fall 2020 schedule development.

Robust University System

  1. Finalizing general education course numbering in Banner in support of State initiative and timeline.
  2. Launched an Enrollment Management initiative that includes an instructional capacity analysis, with course demand projections with the goal of creating a multi-semester registration process in subsequent academic years.
  3. Reviewed meta majors and coding in Banner to ensure enhanced reporting of student engagement within meta majors.
